The Visitor from Elsewhere

The producers shoot some test footage

It wasn’t a debacle on the scale of “Waterworld” or “Heaven’s Gate” or even “Ishtar” but the shoot at the Arya Bhavan restaurant  just wasn’t up to our standards and it was clear to us that we needed to do find a location that would match in quality the talent of the actors in our movie and I think we knocked it out of the park when we were able to secure the India House restaurant in Schaumburg. I can’t wait let our cast and crew loose in this new venue. Special thanks go out to producer Rahul Thakkar for helping make this happen.

I also posted this on the corresponding Vimeo page:

You need a not-real-heavy tripod to use as a poor man’s Steadicam. Make sure the tripod is completely folded up and kept shut (strip of gaffer tape will help). Remove the pan handle. Hold the rig just below the camera quick-mount, and you should be good to go.

Caveat: This is not a great idea for long, sustained shots (per The West Wing), because the operator’s arm will get tired pretty quickly. Experiment with tucking the elbow in, and supporting it (and the load) on your hip.

Bonus: You are still going to need some additional lighting – fill at least, and probably key & fill in areas like the bar and by the front door.
